Bio
Carol Heffler is a singer, songwriter and pianist, whose voice has been described as “a delight of mellow control and expression, warm with vibrato, perfectly suited to her style” (Heartsong Review). Possessed of a transparently warm soprano voice which dips into contralto depths when necessary, Carol Heffler’s delivery is akin to a sweet melodic breeze.” (Alan Bargebuhr, Cadence Magazine)
Carol grew up in Summit, NJ, and began studying jazz piano at age 15. She earned a BA in Music, and began performing in small clubs around Ann Arbor, MI. She moved to Boston, formed a quintet, and shared the stage with the Mercer Ellington Orchestra and Woody Herman. After completing a Masters in Music with a jazz emphasis at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Carol was awarded “Best Female Jazz Vocalist” by the International Association of Jazz Educators. She moved to New York City, where her song “Strong Steady Love” was recorded by the Markley Band on Accord Records. She also recorded commercials and sang backup for Richie Havens.
Carol’s first CD release, “Pull of the Moon”, is a mix of original songs and expressive covers, accompanied by an expertly crafted jazz ensemble. That was followed by “exactly”, named “the best vocal disc of the year” by Doug Moody at KMFB radio in Ft. Bragg, CA. This mainstream jazz album includes more great new Carol Heffler originals, which blend jazz, Brazilian beats, R & B, and soft rock. "exactly" was played on over one hundred jazz and college radio stations worldwide.
Carol has performed at the Red Bank Blues and Jazz Festival, Women in Jazz festival, Winter Festival New Hope as a featured headliner, Lambertville Station, Cornelia Street Café, and many clubs, museums, and art galleries in the New York – New Jersey area. Her music has accompanied an animated film, an actor’s showcase in Manhattan, and a dance recital at Rider College. Her original songs are a mixture of jazz, Brazilian beats, rhythm and blues, and melodic soft rock.
A long time student of A Course in Miracles, Carol was inspired to write songs that express its joyful message. Collaborating with Grammy award winner producer Rob Sands, “I Could See Peace” was released in December 2016. This new album offers songs of enlightenment in which Carol’s soothing voice, original melodies, and engaging grooves create a space for contemplative listening. It is now available on ITunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and CDBaby.com.
